Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in popular culture, she works to highlight issues related to the targeted harassment of women and other marginalized classes of the Internet world. Sarkeesian has a degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public speaking. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. In 2009, the ebullient young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web series on gender in videogames. However the attack could have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her contribution to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women in the pop-culture narratives.
