Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of the football scholarship of his family as well as service to the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. He played football with his three brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the USA. For the three seasons that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. As an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received a scholarship for the third year in 1975. Selmon obtained his diploma in education. Lee Roy's fourth service included ten hours per week in volunteer work during college. He settled down in Tampa following college. He playing for the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and made three times all-pro. The business venture he started began. He began his career in 1988. began working as an Account Relations Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being one of the top 10 youngsters from the United States. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as player, commanded his team for the year 1975. He was promoted to the assistant director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by The Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
